Wine
The origins of this interest are quite easy to trace: they go back to every Wednesday from 2:55 to 4:55 in the Statler Auditorium during Fall 08. Yup, it's Cornell's famous Wines class in the School of Hotel Administration. Every semester this class fills up within the first five minutes of course enrollment and 800 lucky seniors get to drink wine every Wednesday under the guise of education. Has a better premise for thinly veiled inebriation ever been contemplated? I think not.
Yet it turns out, however, that this is one of the most failed classes at Cornell. One may only take Wines pass/fail and the class is not graded on a curve. This really just means that the material is hard, or (more likely) seniors just don't care.
Well, I cared (big surprise). A lot (even bigger surprise, right?). So took the class really seriously and laid the smackdown on this delicious beverage and its insidious (often French, Italian, Spanish, or Portuguese) details. I read Wines for Dummies (our textbook) cover to cover and I memorized that bastard and pretty much learned a lot about wine. The only thing I didn't know was how it tasted (d-oh!).
Obviously, that problem didn't last long after I turned 21 (eeexcellent).
I've been quite a, uh... avid consumer of wine since I started on this quest after my 21st birthday. To actually keep track of my, uh... efforts, I've decided to retroactively create a log of all the wines I've had. My memory fades as I reach back in time, but I promise to keep it up to date with insightful rating and commentary from now on.
